Student Support - Drink Sensibly and Enjoy
by Dayne Matthieu - Friday, 19 December 2014, 03:13 PM

  Keep Safe, and Enjoy!!!!

The Student Support Centre would like to wish all our students a safe and happy festive season break....

Here's a few words of advice around consumption of alcohol:

  • Think before you drink - set yourself a limit and stick to it.  If you have a trusted friend get them involved, ask them to remind you when you have had enough.
  • Eat before you drink – we’ve all done it.  Being caught off guard by not having something to eat before you go out means that you will get drunk quicker.  And that is not a good thing!
  • Don’t mix your drinksl.
  • Have a non-alcoholic drink - For every alcoholic drink you have make sure you have a glass of water or a soft drink.  This will help replace lost fluids and minimise after effects.
  • Slow down your drink – it’s not a race!!
  • Have a smaller drink – just because someone else is paying doesn’t mean you have to have a large drink.
  • Don’t take all your money out- leave your bank cards at home and only take cash.  This will stop you splashing your cash on alcohol and help you to keep tabs on how much you’re drinking.
  • Have an exit plan!–plan your route home before you go.  Pre-book your taxi, know what tube or bus you are going to get and stick to it!  You will have less opportunity to move on to a club or the next bar if you know when you are calling it a night..

Have a fabulous Holiday!!!!!
