The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) will reopen to students at 10.30am on Wednesday 8th September. Our usual opening times are:

Monday 8.30am – 5pm

Tuesday 8.30am – 5pm

Wednesday 8.30am – 4.45pm

Thursday 8.30am – 5pm

Friday 8.30am – 4.30pm

Moodle update - Please read!!

Moodle is currently under maintenance. We are integrating Moodle with our internal systems so that student and staff can login using the same username and password used to login to the college network.
The theme is also being modified so that browsing through the site is easier. Students from 09-10 will not be able to login anymore until they come back for the next academic year in September.

Moodle should be complete by Monday 23rd August 2010.

EMA - Continuing Letter of Entitlement

All students who have received EMA this year and will not be 19 before 1/9/10 are guaranteed to receive EMA next year (10/11). You will receive a letter called a "continuing letter of entitlement" shortly to confirm this and that the EMA payments will be at the same level as last year. No one needs to re-apply for EMA unless your family situation has changed. By the end of August everyone should have received an EMA Agreement - this needs to be brought into the SIC at college after induction and when lessons start.

If you have changed address or not received an EMA Agreement please call EMA on 0800 121 8989.

If you are 19 before September 2010 you can apply for the Adult Learning Grant. We have a limited number of applications in college or you can apply on line.

GCSE Results day: Tuesday 24^th August, 11.00 am

All other 2009-2010 certificates (including uncollected BTEC) will be available from December 2010.

The Cancer Research UK Epidemiology & Genetics Unit are looking to appoint an administrative assistant to replace their current student who is leaving in August to take up a place at university.

The Post will be for approx 1 year and would suit a student looking to take time off before attending university, and would be of particular interest to someone intending to study medicine or a science related subject.

EMA Bonus

Please check you student Dashboard to find out your EMA Bonus decision. It is on the top bar next to your percentage attendance.

If you have been granted a bonus they will be processed by EMA on 5/7/10 and they will reach your account by Thursday 8th July or Friday 9th July.

The bonus decisions are made by your tutors plus you must have also attended all the exams you have been entered for.

Refunds for deposits etc - VERY URGENT - please read!!!

All students wishing to claim refunds for lockers, book deposits etc must do so by 3:00pm on Tuesday 20th July 2010 at the latest. After this date we will be unable to refund any money to students for the 2009/10 academic year.

In order to claim your refund you must bring either your original receipt (signed by someone in the department) or a signed note from the relevant department to the SIC counter. You will also need to have your college ID card with you.

Please note: If you do not have either your original receipt (signed by someone in the department) or a signed note from the relevant department then you will not be able to claim your refund. There will be very few (if any) teaching staff available in college to sign receipts after 9th July.

Students - Computer account for September ?

The LRC team will be issuing computer user agreements to students for you to sign as part of Early Enrolment on 1st & 2nd July, and as part of AS-A2 progression in August.

Anyone who owes books or DVDs to the LRC will not be given a computer user agreement to sign. If we do not have a signed agreement from you, then we will be unable to turn your IT account back on at the start of the autumn term.

If you have any query or problem concerning your library account, then please speak to a member of the LRC team.

All items issued to you by the LRC are due back by Friday 25th June.

The EMA decisions for the week beginning 21/06/10 have been processed and you can check them on your student dashboard. All A2, BTEC year 2 and one year BTEC course students were on study leave for this week, your registers have been cancelled and you will have been paid your EMA.

AS and BTEC year 1 students if you have any unmarked registers please chase your teachers to update them as soon as possible.

New students starting university 2010/11

To be sure of having your first payment ready at the start of the 2010/11 academic year, you must apply by:

25 June 2010 if you’re applying for types of finance that mean your household income will need to be assessed

Apply for finance as soon as possible: don’t wait until you’ve been accepted on a course. Put your first-choice course on your student finance application, and let Student Finance England know if it changes later.

EMA payments for week 43 (24th-28th May) will be authorised (where appropriate) during the week beginning 7th June, with students being notified in the usual way via the Student Dashboard on Moodle.

There is no EMA payment available for week 44 (31st May-4th June) as this is half term.

There are two scholarships available:

Sir George Monoux Exhibition Foundation—for students starting University or College of Higher Education in September and are residents of Waltham Forest

Henry Green Scholarship Fund—for students starting at Oxford, Cambridge or London University and are residents of Waltham Forest but must have attended one of the following schools in the Leyton / Leytonstone area : Connaught Girls, George Mitchell, Leyton Sixth Form, Leytonstone School, Norlington, The Lammas School and Buxton (formerly Tom Hood)
